Katherine Garcia is the owner and treating therapist at GTX Pediatric Speech Therapy, PLLC. She has been practicing as a pediatric speech-language pathologist since 2006. She received both her Bachelor of Arts in English and Master of Arts in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Texas at Austin. She is licensed to practice as a speech-language pathologist in the state of Texas and certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Katherine has a wealth of experience working with pediatric patients in different settings. Her previous work experience includes providing school-based services for students in grades K-12 in public school; providing early intervention for children ages 0-3 in homes, preschools, and community settings; and providing pediatric home health for patients ages 0-18. Prior to pursuing her Master's degree and practicing speech pathology, Katherine taught high school English. When not at work, Katherine enjoys spending time with her husband and daughters, reading, baking, and gardening.
Continuing education and use of evidence-based practices are important to Katherine. She has participated in a number of trainings including, "It Takes Two to Talk," and "More Than Words" through the Hanen Centre. She has also completed extensive Natural Language Acquistion training and is a Natural Language Acquistion Practitioner. Additionally, Katherine has attended multiple trainings specific to apraxia, speech sound production, phonological disorders, neurodiversity-affirming practices, language and literacy, feeding and swallowing, AAC, social communication, play-based intervention, early intervention, and ethics.
